Cream of Turkey Wild Rice Soup

Duh duh duh duuuuuuhhhh…..Here it is, guys.  I have given this meal to friends and family in the past who are dying to get the recipe…..and here it is!  Just for you.  From our house to your house.  Why is this recipe such a big deal?  It’s probably my favorite meal ever.  A soup?  Yes, it’s absolutely delicious, and you won’t even expect it coming.

Imagine you are having a rough day.  You come home tired and worn out from crabby people at work, or you have stayed home with your two-year-old….’nuff said.  It’s a cold, brisk day and you need something warm and savory.  You don’t want to make dinner, but once you start, the smells from this dish overwhelm you.  You begin to get excited about this creamy goodness.  You sit down with your family, and all of your picky eaters are raving about your fantastic cooking skills!  You finally get to eat, and it’s everything you had ever wanted and more.

This is THE perfect fall dish.  Don’t let any others fool you!  It’s pretty easy to make, doesn’t require too many ingredients, and is completely worth every second spent in the kitchen.  When can you say that cooking is actually part of the experience!  This soup fills your house with so many smells you can’t take it.  Ok, I’m overselling it here.  Just trust me.  Make this for your family.  Make this for friends.  Make this and hide it for yourself.  You will be getting compliments from everyone!  Try it and enjoy!  Make sure you take the time to really savor this soup.

Start by cooking some canned mushroom slices in butter….um, yes please.  Even if you aren’t a mushroom fan, you really won’t taste these in the soup much!  In a separate bowl, mix your flour and salt, just until it is well-blended and there are no lumps.  Oh-so gradually, add your broth to the buttery mushrooms you just created.  Stir, stir, stir gradually so the mixture doesn’t settle at the bottom and stick.  Your mixture will thicken into a delectable sauce.

Remove your pan from heat.  Gradually stir the milk, rice, turkey (or chicken), and cream cheese into your beautifully created mixture.  Stir until everything is well-blended.  Add some sherry to the mix!  I haven’t used this in my concoction yet, but it can only make the sauce for flavorful!  Cook your incredible soup on low heat until the soup is heated to your desire.

The soup will be thicker than a regular soup due to all of the ingredients, but that’s a good thing!  It’s a hearty soup and doesn’t take much to fill you up, which means more for later!  Woot!  Serve with some rolls or biscuits!  Absolutely delicious!  Let me know how it goes, and how you like it!  Because this recipe is hush-hush, make sure to share us with others!  Share the love, baby!
