Carla’s Mustard & Brown Sugar Glazed Ham

I absolutely love food. It has a special place in my heart because there are so many feelings and memories that come with food. Food is not just nourishment for the body. It is an experience, a memory being made, and a special activity. This holiday season has been filled with incredible dishes from cinnamon rolls on Christmas Day to homemade candies at my in-law’s. If there is one thing I know, it’s that both sides of my family love to cook and are great at it! The food makes the holiday season for me.

I have represented my side of the family pretty well, and now it’s time to represent my hubby’s side. My mother-in-law knows how to cook! She is an excellent cook and comes up with some of the most delicious recipes. One of these recipes is her Mustard & Brown Sugar Glazed Ham. It is absolutely divine! The smooth layers of ham are sweet and savory with a slight twang from the mustard flavoring. The brown sugar and mustard collide to make a bit of a crunchy coating that melts in your mouth with every bite.

My mother-in-law makes this delicious meal every Christmas. It is one of my and my hubby’s favorites. I have so many wonderful memories associated with this ham. My hubby and I had our first Christmas at their house eating this incredible dish. It made me feel comfortable and welcomed in to a new family’s holiday traditions. Well, this year I wanted to try it out. Our local grocery store was having a sale on ham, so I decided it was time to try out. I made some for us all, and though it didn’t inhabit the same memories as Christmas dinner, it did taste delicious! Even my two picky men loved it!

Start by buying thinly sliced ham from the deli, or buy a large ham and cut it yourself into thinly sliced pieces. You will want them to be thinner because it helps the flavors of the ham, mustard, and brown sugar mingle better. Place your cut ham slices in a glass oven dish. Mix your brown sugar and mustard together. Dab it on each ham slice and pour the rest over the last piece. Put in the over for about 30 minutes, checking every 10 minutes to make sure your mixture and your ham aren’t getting too burnt. Take out and enjoy with your family!
